Back into the canoe

Finally got the roof top carrier repaired, which led to putting the canoe up and heading to the lakes this morning. Fishers in the boat next to me were doing well with ultra light spinning rigs for crappies, but I didn’t do squat. Bluegills was a different story. I’m falling in love with my new H & H 3 wt. What fun! Gonna make the woman in my life happy with fresh asparagus and freshly caught bluegills for dinner. I guess I’m off to find a bottle of good white wine. It was good being afloat. JGW

I used a 3 wt in the canoe this morning and had a ball.

Largest was a 6 lb bass. I love small ponds.

Oh, Rick! I wasn’t so lucky. Fun anyway. JGW

Asparagus and bluegill? Yuck! Whatever happened to fries, or hush puppies???

Congrats, regardless, sir!

Hey Rick,

Gotta ask, is that Mall pond inside with
the air conditioning or outside in the
parking lot?G Warm regards, Jim

Ok for you Jim, I corrected it to small.

I never claimed to be a great speller.

Rick

Geeze Roger. I thought hush puppies, okra, et.al were condiments for catfish. Dang, the back of my hand hurts. G JGW

Shucks Rick,

I was just envious of your find. I
didn’t know you couldn’t spell.G Warm
regards, Jim

Ah, you’re forgiven. And no, we do hush puppies and/or fries with all kinds of fish, if we’re frying them. I guess it’s just second nature!

It’s all part of the package.G Warm

“After” dinner have a couple of small brandy glasses of Taylor Fladgate 10 year aged Port. Sip & slurp…r e l a x…warm and smooth. You will love it.

We did have a couple of glasses of white wine with the bluegill dinner. Well, a couple during the cooking, perhaps a glass and a half during the dinner and then to the porch swing for some relaxation. With nightfall I went to tie some flies and made a pitiful mess. Sunday morning I went back down and tied what I needed and compared the effort. I mean, I wasn’t wobbly or anything, but if I can mess up that badly tying a fly I’m sure as hell happy I didn’t go for a drive. By the way, the asparagus was perfect, steamed just enough for a slight softening but still incredibly crisp. A great start to the summer. JGW

You rock, White43. I’ll probably get pummeled for saying it, but I’d give up the bluegills before I’d give up the asparagus. I could make a meal on just steamed wild asparagus, with red wine vingar butter, some salt and pepper. It’s just about to start popping out around here pretty soon, and maybe I’ll have a chance at it now that I’m retired. Lots of competition. Nearest bluegills are about 120 miles away, so to top off the asparagus with bluegills takes a weekend at the right time. Makes my mouth water just thinking about it.
