Attaching Tippets

Just curious and thought I’d ask. Does anyone use ‘Tippet Rings’ between the leader and the tippet? I recall reading that they are strong, do not effect the cast or the fly, light and float. Any opinions by those who’ve used them?

Allan

I have never used them but would like to know what others think also…

What are tippet rings??

Philip

These beauties can be had from feathercraft[/url:0bbc1] Furled leaders with tippet rings included. Work marvelous.

I use them on my furled leaders
which I am almost using exclusively these days

Okay, but now a follow-up question:

Where can someone get some of those rings? Anyone know?

Allan

Someone who makes furled leaders would likely know for sure, but I believe I heard that those rings are a jewelry supply item, so you might check at craft stores or local jewelers. I would guess that they are super cheap–probably come by the bagful.

Allan, Feather craft sells the rings only

Bill

Does anybody here use these rings? Do they realy work well and float, turn over the fly? It looks like a great idea but I’m worried it hinders the leader from turning over propely.

Thanks for all the replies.
Allan

tyeflies - feathercraft sells them, thats where I get mine

brhokla - it does not hinder turnover - there are very small and work beautifully with the furled leaders

I’m wondering if there’s a ring made of material that would float by it’s self, without relying on surface tension to keep it atop. Seems reasonable, if it would turn the tippet over. Any thoughts?

sperzonkers2, If you look at my post above ( the one JC got such a laugh out of) you will see the furled leaders that feathercraft sells, with the rings attached. click the link and it will take you to their page.

While commuting to work today I saw a truck with a decal for the Fly Tying Chronicles.com. When I got to work I looked up the website and came upon tippet rings. Here is a link http://www.flytyingchronicles.com/product.php?productid=96&cat=24&page=1[/url:a7288]

Hope this helps.

Allan,
Simplest is best. The less contraptions the better. I even dispise loops for my (trout) fishing.

No wonder beginners have so much trouble deciding what to use. All the options. Just MHO only though. I’ve learned to keep stuff simple and uncluttered.

Jeremy.

I tried to say that any price is too much and tied onto the end of some furled leaders was way too much, but some on here didn’t like me saying that, so I took my post down. Wouldn’ want to offend some small minds.

anyone know how strong the rings are?
