At certain Times

Ever use a pattern like this?

Be the first to name it correctly and I will send you one of my large closed end hair stackers, if you like.

Coffin fly…

The closest I can think of is a Light Cahill. However some LC patterns have a lighter/white tail. And the clipped hackle ribbing over your floss/biot? body are not standard either. So unless I can find a specific pattern with those features and its own name, I’m going with “Light Cahill”.
Cheers, Greg

Dr. Korn beat me to it.

This is a Dette Coffin Fly.

Unfortunately, there is an Eastern Green Drake and a Western Green Drake, but no Midwestern Green Drake

The good dr Korn wins the stacker. He correctly identified the pattern I was trying to tie.

Byron, I look forward to trying out your closed end stacker… I’m not really sure I’ve seen one before and I know I’ve never used one. Thank you so much.

Don’t be surprised if you get a little package in return

Also, thanks for keeping the fly tying page interesting on FAOL, I enjoy seeing your excellent tying and I look forward to your posts. Keep them coming, your fellow tyer, Doug.

Some differences to the pattern as tyed by the Dettes. That is, as you describe, “He correctly identified the pattern (Dette Coffin fly) I was trying to tie.”

Nice tye though.

Thanks Allan. Never met anyone who ties it better than Mary. This is the one she tied for me.

Exactly correct!

Well, I learned something. The Dette fly with the dark wing and badger hackle does look more ‘Coffiny’ though.
