Yes, still going after the Bowfin. I have a goal to get to 100 lifetime Bowfin on fly. And at this point, it looks like I will make that goal in less than 1 year since I caught my first one. After catching 8 yesterday…I just need 9 more before June 4 to reach my goal. Caught some pretty ones, nice ones, and even 3 Common Carp, 1 Warmouth, 2 Largemouth bass, and 2 Green Sunfish.

Also… I don’t recall if I mentioned this before. If I did, my apologies.Scientific analyses have very recently determined there are not one, but at least TWO distinct species of Bowfin. These species diverged at least 1 million years ago.One type is along the Southeastern US. It keeps the Amia calva latin name, and now sports the common name “Ruddy Bowfin”. (Hey, I didn’t pick the name.)The second is roughly in the areas around the Great Lakes, and down through the Mississippi River valley and tributaries. It has been given Amia ocellicauda as it’s latin name, and “Eyetail Bowfin” as it’s proposed common name.
Looks like a terrific day of fly fishing. I have yet to find either Bowfin or Snakeheads to fish for where I live. All those fish look like they were a blast to land on a flyrod.Well done.Jim Smith
