I’m tired of my waders needing to be replaced every year and understand that if I go to something like a Simms Gore-tex or similar that I may see some years rather than ‘year’ like my Hodgemans. Anybody know of any good deals out there right now? And where might they be? Do they need to be Simms, or are there comparable and perhaps less expensive options?
There are several pretty good buys on Sierra Trading post that you might want to check out. I beleive that they have an additional 20% off today on all orders over $100.
Kelly, Bob just bought some Patagonias, “they say” they have the best warranty in the business, but don’t know if that means they are they best waders. He had some Simms that did wear like iron, and the company re-did them after some years for about $50, fixing all the pinhole leaks.
The suggestion about Sierra Trading Post is a good one. However, the sizes they have available vary wildly over the course of the year. In case you don’t know, you can set up an email alert with them to let you know when a product comes in stock (or you can set up an alert, for example, on all fishing products by searching on “fishing” and entering your email address). Best wishes.

Kelly,
Try LL Bean… Lifetime warranty… if you are not satisfied or they leak, they will replace them. Call their customer service dept. , I could not beleive that they are warranted forever, but they apparently are. I have a pair that are in their 3rd year , are as tough as the Simms guides, which they replaced, I believe they were $199 . a couple hundred less than simms
I buy waders like I buy fly line. I might like the newest color line that sells for $79 but I will settle for line that last year cost $69 and I can buy it for $25 this year. I would broden your search options to include brands like Patagonia and Cloudveil in addition to Simms. It’s like looking for realestate, if you have to have that location, you will pay for it. If you lock yourself into a particular brand and they are not on sale you will pay for it.
Consider other quality options then buy whatever is the biggest bang for the buck right now. This week it could be the Cloudveils, next week the Patagonia or Simms product. Keep your options open. I sent you a PM about a sale.
You know how much I fish, Kelly. Almost all the wade fishing ( except wet wading ) I’ve done the past three years has been in the same pair of Simms that I bought at Jimmy’s. In warmer wader weather, when a bit of leakage makes for more comfort, I can use the older pair of Simms that I bought six years ago.
I’ve sent the newer pair in a couple times for the $50 refresh / rehab treatment and they come back looking practically new and leak-free for another year.
You can say Simms costs more on the front end than a lot of other brands, and they do. But how many of the other brands can stand up to 100 plus days a year for three or four years and still be usable ?? On the South Fork or the Bitterroot in mid-winter ?? Maybe a couple other brands, and they will be in the same price range as Simms.
