Thanks everyone for all the encouragement. I got my plans in the mail just Monday, and I have been poring over them. I am certainly not an experienced wood worker, but I think I can handle this project. One question for the experts I do have is regarding the plywood choice. He recommends Okoume BS 6566. What is the difference between Okoume BS 6566, and Meranti BS 6566? I can find no difference in number of plys, glue type, face veneers, or bending characteristics. The only difference I can see is the weight. Sheet to sheet, Meranti is 4 pounds heavier than Okoume, at about 60% of the price.

Could be the material used as inner plies are different, accounting for the weight. If you have to hoist that boat onto the top of your car, I’d go with the lighter weight stuff. If your just gonna slide it into the back of your pick up, then go for the heavier, cheaper stuff.
