mine is to tie more dry flies
My new years fly tying resolution is to make step by steps for each new pattern in 2011 as I tie them.
Tie more of the older classical trout flies like Peter Ross.
Would like to practice more the “old” feather wings.
I am going to try to do the one I didn’t get done this year, and that is learning to spin deer hair.
My other resolution for this year I did accomplish and that was to tie more 14 to 18’s and less of the 26 to 32’s.
14 to 18’s tied about 20 dozen for the year. 26’s 2 dozen and 28’s and 30 1 dozen each and only 2 dozen 32’s.
Also I want to get comfortable with doing “Married” Wings.
Along with any other tying I do, I’m planning to learn to tie the featured fly in each issue of PA Angler & Boater. Not a huge goal, but one I can do.
Many years ago I made a resolution to not make any more New Years resolutions. I do believe that it’s the only one I ever kept.
Not to buy any more fly boxes…
By New Years, all my “bad” habits are usually remedied! Shortly, I should be starting on developing 2011s bad habits. One of the positive side effects of being monetarily challenged is that you can’t get into TOO much trouble, all at once! LOL!! Frizzle, Spazzle, Snoort, Frumph! Wheew! I feel better now! Good luck on your New Years restitutions, I mean resolutions!!!
Best regards, Dave S.
FISH MORE111 therefore Lose more, therefore justify tying more!
first–tie lots of what i actually like to use in enough colors and quantity
second–tie some stuff that might work
third–tie one or two really pretty things for the fun of it
This past year I wanted to try tube fly tying but never got around to it. Tying some tube flies are near the top of my list for this year.
2010 is the first year in 17 years that I did not participate in a swap. I plan on remedying that this coming year. I will have my eyes open for a couple wetfly/flymph swaps.
A second resolution I have been making and keeping since I cant remember, is to throw away any material I havent used in the previous year, excluding hooks, hackles, and thread. This simple task has had a couple benifits for me. It makes me think a little harder when I go to purchase a new item, and it has done wonders keeping my fly tying area clean. I came up with this resolution many years ago when my wife demanded I clean my fly tying area, and I found a Stetson hat in one of my baskets of material. I thought the hat had been stolen/thrown away by my wife years previous!
I resolve to search through my fly-tying materials to see if I can find a Stetson Hat! ![]()
Good call!!!
My first on is TV related. I have cut out most TV watching. The next step is- I am either exercising or tying flies if the TV is on. I think I will tie more flies and watch less TV ![]()
2nd is to do more lots/ or batch tying. minimum of 6 if I am going to tie any of my standard patterns. This will not apply to experimentation or creative sessions where there are no rules.
3rd-Host at least one Flies and Pies session at my house this year. I discovered another newbee in my neighborhood so I need to get him exposed to more folks.
Happy tying
Dan
I am going to learn to tie Klinkhamers!
Mike
I’m going to try to tie the patterns I know work in quantity instead of tieing one of each and every “latest and greatest” pattern I find on the internet.
That was one of my resolutions last year, and I am happy I stuck with it.
To tye more flies. To help others when I can and to the best of my ability improve over what I’ve tyed in the past.
Oh!! And promote World Peace!!!
Here’s hoping you all have a wonderful New Year,
David Martin
Great to see you on here David . Hope to see some of your flies here as well. Hope you have a great new year.
