One of my favorite alpine lake fishing pictures from this year.
Sooperfly,
I have a question? Why is the fly fisher in focus and the background blurry?
Thanks,
Doug
Sooperfly,
Which Alpine lake is that? It isn’t Colchuck is it?
Doug, that was my intent. It’s a combination of a long focal length and a large aperture. I shot that picture at 200mm with the lens set at F2.8, and got close as close to my fishing partner as I could while still keeping all his fly line in the frame. I was trying to make him “stand out” of the picture while including a pleasing background.
Here is a picture of my pops where I wanted to isolate him:

And here is another picture where I wanted most of everything in the frame in focus:

Another picture ( from last year ) of fly casting with everything in focus: http://www.rivercolor.com/images/oct22.jpg
Here is a wikipedia page that helps explain this if you want to check it out!
Lotech - no, it’s not Colchuck!
I’d rather not say on an open forum where it is.
That photo is just spectacular. I can even see the fly!!! Thats one nice camera, too! Nice work!!
Sooperfly,
Thank you for explaining your photo! I love the photos of your Dad!!
What camera do you use?
Thanks,
Doug
I agree…that is one nice photo…if you click on it…it will enlarge and then click on the enlargement and and even closer pic appears…in that…you can make out the fly (not the pattern…but you can see the fly).
Very nice.
Doug- one of those was taken with a Canon 20D, the rest with a Canon 1DMK3.
What’s all the fuss about? I find it easy to get both the background and foreground blurry when I take pictures! ha!
Seriously though, great photos!

I understand. It’s not that important to me.
My sentiments mirror Mato’s to a Tee…What a spectacular Photo!! Thanks for sharing it with us!!
Being able to followout that whole leader and almost… see what fly he’s using is Awesome!!!
