My husband and I have made Alberta part of our summer vacation for the last 3 years. Love it!

Welcome aboard.

Im from Lethbride but im now living in Ontario bug I am usully in alberta visiting relative and fly fishing, I will most likle be out there this summer!

Hey Steelheader,

I lived in Leth the past few years, now in Guelph. Suprisingly a ton of year-round fly fishing around that prairie town. 1.5 hours to the east slopes, 1.5 hour drive to the Famous Bow in Calgary, Mooneye, pike, and walleye right in Leth, Big Pike all around, and quite a few brown trout spots within a half hour drive.

Dang I miss Lethbridge…

I’m in Calgary
Great fishing in our parts … Bow is well known …but I prefer the secret streams along the Forest Trunk Road .

SuperBob,

Used to stomp around Hinton. (in another lifetime). Worked a bit in Ft McMurry too.

Did the Pelican Lake fire in the 80’s so didn’t fish much then.

Hi, I live in Browning, MT and we usually try to go up to Lethbridge at least once a month or so for some shopping, and the wife likes to go check out animals at Waterton.

What type of fishing is close in to Lethbridge area and do you know what it takes to get a non-resident license?

Thanks,

George

Well I would like to start by thanking you all for replying. As for you SALMONFLY, Ive fished the bow and actualy live not to far from and spend most of my time on the Forest Trunk Road.Ever did any hunting up here?

Hey George,

If’n your going through Waterton towards Lethbridge, Your right on some excellent fishin’. The Belly River and The Waterton River in and on the edge of the parks are good for bows and the occasional brown.

If you take hwy 5 towards Cardston and through to Lethbridge you pass north of a couple of good trout lakes and you cross the Belly and Waterton Rivers.

If you head north towards Hillspring then on to Lethbridge (Hwy 5 from Waterton to 800 to 505 to 810 to Hwy 3 at Ft. Macleod) you will be near a bunch of pike lakes that are easy to float with a tube. The drive is also very scenic for a Prairie road. The wife will like it especially in the spring when the flowers are out and the pike are shallow . The Oldman river around Ft Macleod has some big Browns but they are very hard to find. Also a decent place to try for pike.

North from Waterton (Hwy 6) takes you to Pincher Creek and puts you near the Crowsnest and Oldman. Great fishing and nice scenery. You also cross a couple of small streams that may have some small bows, brookies, or cutts. Need permission to cross the land to these streams though! You'll find tons of info about this area if you search on the net. Lots of opportunities to fish close to the road and it will give your wife some things to look at.

If you go up once a month take the time to check out the backroads. There are alot of secrets in S. Alberta! Email if you have questions, if I can’t answer them I’ll send you to someone who can.

Cheers,
Paul

Hey superbob … nope not a hunter. I tried Bow hunting in the past but gave it up … too many miles put in retrieving arrows . 8^)

Hey Bob, there is a few of us around here. I’m from Red Deer, and no, there are no fish in the Red.
