Hi,
I would like to plan a trip to the Bahamas with the intent of flyfishing for Bonefish. I would like to stay at a location that has excellent/large area for wading right of the resort, and has other things to do for the wife/ kids, snorkling, kayaking, swimming, etc. Any suggestions?
Hi, I can recommend a few places that I have stayed and took my family and had great bonefishing:
-Eleuthera. Plenty of wadable flats all over the Island. I stayed at the Good and Plenty, Pricey but a very nice place for the family. There are also other places just as nice to stay and less expensive. Yellow crazy charlies and gotchas work best for me.
-The Abaco Islands. you have plenty of choices here. You can stay on Marsh Harbour (the main Island). Very nice hotels and resturants. Or rent a condo, my suggestion. There are wadable flats but you’ll need to rent a car or boat. if you rent a boat I suggest you rent it from Parrot Cay, they have the best prices. you can also drive or taxi to Cherokee Sound (40 mins fr Marsh Harbour). Great flats!!!. You may forget about the wife and kids
-Treasure Cay. part of the Abacos. This is a resort. It’s beautiful but very pricey. There some very nice flats to fish. The employees that work there will bend over backwards for you, and they will suggest places to fish on any given day. they let me use a ATV to get to far out flats at no charge. This place is geared for family vacations with plenty of things to do while you’re fishing. I know they have reduced rates on the off season.
I hope this helps you. One last thing stay away from Nasau and Freeport. they are strickly tourist traps and not good for flats fishing. Great casinos!
Thanks for the post. I booked a trip with my wife on Long Island at the Cape Santa Maria. We got a pretty good deal. I’m gonna get a guide, I can’t decide, either for 1 half or a full day, and wade fish the other 3 days. I can’t wait to catch my first bonefish. It’s looks like a ral nice place, good for snorkeling, kayaking and excellent flyfishing. We’re going the second week in November. Any suggestions?
