The Oath that we took then and I renew with you now:
“I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God.”
Watched a special documentary on the History Channel this morning about the preservation of the flag that flew, as the battle raged over Fort McHenry, while Francis Scott Key penned the lines to our National Anthem. I didn’t realize the size of the flag, and how difficult it has been to preserve it from natural and human degredation. Very educational and inspiring. I’ll never think of our “Star Spangled Banner” in the same way again. Thanks Eric, for the heads-up.
I thank you sir. I fly my flag proudly every day of the year. Today is special. I also salute our soldiers and thank them when I can. Happy birthday US Army. Jim
I have always thought that our FLAG is the most beautiful in the world, & being an old Army Vet, I think it’s a pretty special Birthday.
God Bless America!
