so i call this fly the brown hopper but you could call it the rip off hopper since all i did is take little bits and pieces from other hopper patterns put them together in a way that was easy to tie and deadly in the water. the last to pics are of one that found its way into the mouths of some toothy Teton river cutts this weekend. dont forget the zap a gap when tying this fly. just click the picture to see the slide show.

Very good job Ben. Is the fly in the last few photo’s a little chewed? As in has caught a few fish? Oops! reread thread , I good selling point for a fly pattern is one full of teeth marks.

Thank you guys for the kind words. I have tied this style hopper in a couple of swaps and per a few request i decided to do the slide show. i tie this pattern with all sorts of different colors given the area i am fishing. The set backs to this fly are it will twist your leader(but so do most big hopper patterns) and as you can see in the last 2 pictures the foam takes a beating. That being said it really has been the most productive hopper pattern for me this season landing me many nice fish. so good luck to those who tie it and try it.
