That is simply gorgeous. The inlay is super!
Absolutely beautiful! I’m not sure I could bring myself to walk around on slippery ricks with that in my hand - I’d probably end up sitting in my Lazy-boy just looking at it!
Happy New Year to you All!
Cliff
Beautiful Stephen!
Your wooden handles are truly off the charts!
Bob
Steve,
First off, thank you for joining FAOL and cead mile failte (a hundred thousand welcomes)
Your knot work is perfect and you have done a great honor to the Oregon Walnut, so far ;). Please let us see your finished rod.
Thanks so much for sharing, to coin an 80’s phrase, “she is a total babe”.
Respectfuly,
Sean
thanks all,i have a question, whats the best way to post pictures here, all i can figure out is that littel one,how do you make it larger on the page with out haveing to click on it,thanks steve
That’s fantastic.
Dave
Very nice, Steve.
I post all my pics on PhotoBucket.com first then insert the link in the post as a thumbnail. I myself prefer to see thumbnails in posts and not full sized pics. When full sized pics have a resolution bigger than the average computer display setting, it really changes the way the entire thread is displayed. I usually always keep my posted pics under 1024x768, most of the time at 640x480. If the pic is hosted on server elsewhere (i.e. PhotoBucket for example) the pic will open in a different tab/window. If it’s an attachment here on FAOL, when you click on it, it opens in the same window, then you have to go ‘back’ to get back to the thread. This can be annoying when there are several pics.
Simply stunning!

Not all that hard to do.
John
P.S. Quite a piece of art you have there.
thats it,thanks,steve
Steve,
A fine job you did there. I’ve followed your posts and have always admired your trying new ideas.
A very good piece of craftsmanship! Someday I’d like to see how much that solid grip will affect a 'boo stick. The Gnome is sold on them…can’t be too bad with an endorsement like that!
Jeremy.
stevekiley,
Welcome to FAOL. What more can I say - Museum Quality!! What do you know about the walnut? Is it a mixed variety? There is supposed to be some mixed varieties being grown in the northwest. I don’t recall if it was American/Spanish or what. A friend makes some beautiful gun stocks from it. Thanks for sharing.
Best regards, Dave S.
the walnut came from a local black walnut that was probably planted by some early settler to the willammette valley, thanks, steve
just finished the rod,8’ 4wt. with ammonia tempered blank star hollow built, thanks, steve

Holy moley!!
Steve,
That is a treasure! Nuff said!!!
Best regards, Dave S.
That is simply beautiful to behold. Very, very well done. Excuse me, I need some paper towels to wipe the drool off the puter.

Thanks for showing us the finished rod.
I have been looking for about 5 mins and caught myself wondering if you feel this is the best looking rod you ever made? If it isn’t this one then the next will be perfect.
If it were mine I would take all ceiling fans out of my house and the doors off my cars and truck.
