A different material for streamers

Wool Roving is a material that I find very versatile and effective, especially for baitfish patterns. This is dyed sheep’s wool that is ready to be spun into yarn by people who make their own yarn. I comes in a TON of colors and cost about $3.50 per package. Each package will make a lot of streamers. The Wool Roving can be found at JoAnns Fabrics, Michaels, or Hobby Lobby. Here’s a baby Bluegill pattern I tie on a size 2/0 60-degree jig hook. I added a Fish Make to give it a bit more realism and to give a solid base to glue in the eyes. It rides hook up which makes it relatively weedless.https://gifyu.com/image/SQXA2

Jim you have become a mad scientist of fly tying. That’s a good looking fly to tempt the many species you now have to go after. I’m a little envious.

Thanks for the kind words, Uncle Jesse. I hope that all is going well for you and that you’re enjoying life.Jim

I use roving from alpaca for all my “Hares Ears”.
