This is my buddy. This is his 1st ever trout caught. This is his 1st ever fish on a fly rod. What a HAWG!!! He is now ruined for life - Beginners luck:

… and so are the fishies.
Your buddy is spoiled for sure. Tell him not to sweat it. Same thing happened to me when I started - first fish on a fly was an 18" rainbow on Henry’s Fork. I have been HUMBLED many times since then.
