Since my friend in Missoula keeps me well-stocked with upland game pelts, I figured I could supply him with some stuff for the springtime hatches. Looks like the Root has come down from the big spike on Wednesday so maybe he can find some fish looking up. A #12 may seem a bit big for March Browns but the fly has a pretty small footprint on the water and the fish down there are as dumb as posts anyway.
Thanks. Not sure March Browns will still be around then, but maybe. More like PMD/caddis? Anyway, have fun; the fishing should be great. Where are you staying?
Hey Scott, booked the lodging with Headhunters, staying at the “BOBKAT” Inn, just outside of Craig.
We are fishing with Tony Reinhardt’s guides, those guys fish HARD. Last year we used them for 4 days and they always fish 10 hours plus a day…they work hard to get you on fish and it was a great experience for us to fish the Bitteroot and the Clarks Fork. This year we will be fishing the Missouri for the first time.
Not the Bitterroot but in the neighborhood. Skwalas were active and the fish responded on top for a while; bobber season is over and real fishing can commence .
Fly doesn’t much resemble the real thing colorwise; need to start tying them in brown (sorry for the blurry image but the bug wouldn’t sit still for a proper shot)
