A fishing buddy and I are travelling from Canada to the Boyne River area of Michigan this Thursday and I’m looking for advice and/or an FAOLer who could show a couple of Canucks around the rivers (we’re not really looking to hire a guide, however.)
Advice on locations and fly selection, as well as any special regulations in the area, would be much appreciated.
I am not local to that area, but have fished around there some. The Jordan and Maple Rivers are great rivers to try. Stop into the Grouse Feather Fly Shop (231-582-9950) in Boyne City for the latest on the stream and hatch conditions. The owner is a good guy who has sold me some good flys in the past. I would guess you will be fishing terrestrials during the day and tricos in the morning, but just guessing at that. Try various types of Michigan Skunks. Have a blast gents!
I have never fished the Boyne mostly because I can’t get past the Jordan. It is a lovely river in a natural setting especially in the upper portion where you can hike the Jordan river pathway to access the river in many places.
all leaders tangle; mine are just better at it than most. Jim
Hey JC;
The Jordan River,historic water, even mentioned in the Bible. Gotta be a knockout. Isn’t that where the “other” JC was baptized? And all the time I thought it was farther away. A dunkin in that one takes on new meaning.
