7 Species Sunday

Flyfished an urban creek today. Water was low and fairly clear. I could actually see some fish, which of course makes fishing for them so much easier. Hooked 7 species, I think.
Caught 2 Common Carp and 1 Mirror Carp;
7 Shortnose Gar
3 Grass Carp (biggest was 31")
1 Bluegill
1 White Bass
1 Silver Carp (foul-hooked)
1 Bighead Carp (?) (fair-hooked!)
And saw a Western Ribbon Snake.

Nice fishing trip David! Great pictures!

Thanks, Dale!

Looks like you had a lot of fun.

Rick

It was fun, except for wading through some poison ivy. I waded out in the creek after that, and so far that appears to have helped.

Dave, what are the silvery looking fish in the photo below the ribbon snake picture?

Dennis

Dennis, those are invasive Asian carp you’ve probably heard about…or seen videos of them jumping into boats that are running down the river. Filter feeders. These are pretty small ones…they can get very big. I think the one on the left is a Bighead Carp, and the one on the right is a Silver Carp. I’d actually never seen a live one before. I donated them both to the raccoons.

Nice fish Dave!

Thanks, Eric!

Congratulations! Sounds like a great day of fishing.

Jim Smith

Thanks Jim, I enjoyed it.

You sure had a fun time. That’s great.
