50/50 glass carbon fiber handle

This handle is also a carbon fiber skin grip but is a 50/50 blend of carbon fiber and fiberglass. It is a wee bit heavier than the straight carbon fiber but still VERY light. This is a brown and black almost snakeskin weave. This was the first attempt with this material. I am going to do a fenwick grip for a bamboo restoration with this and thought I would do this first.

Hey that is VERY NICE looking and creative. Almost looks like a snake skin.

Looks too much like snakeskin for my taste, but very interesting. Do you mean you made this? Could you do a tutorial?

Yes I did make this. I learned to do it from two different sources. The first was Rodmaker magazine (just a subscriber not affiliated in any way) Volume 10 issue #6 and also from Riley Rods. They have both method and supplies available at their web site and will help with any questions. Here is the website

here is the link to the magazines and sctually there were two different articles in two different issues

I have developed my own way and finish but this is where i got started.

Very neat and something to think about for a build.

Is the grip smooth or is there tecture?

Sean

Some people finish them smooth, I like to leave a slight texture.

I am very curious to see how this works especially on a traditional bamboo rod. The old cork ring “lady’s” grip has been around for a long time. I am really happy to see grips made of 21st century material.
