3wt?

Can anyone suggest a 3wt. I am looking for something longer, maybee even 9ft. Medium action or medium-fast, and hopefully under $300.

I have a 3 weight, 9 foot IM6 Graphite that I bought from Hook & Hackle (a FAOL Sponsor) which I thoroughly enjoy.

I usually don’t answer rod questions on bb’s but I will second Panmans endorsement of the Hook and Hackle house brand IM6 green 9’ 3 wt. It is the best rod in that line of rods that I have cast. The action reminds me somewhat of a Winston IM6 (WT now), stiff butt with soft tip. A nice rod to cast and fish.
If I had known how good it was I would have put better fitt’ns on it when I built it.

Blake,
My 3 wt is an 8’ St Croix LU that I really like, but to be honest, I have heard far too many glowing recommendations for Hook & Hackle to steer you anywhere but there. You’re getting good recommendations from some pretty good FAOLers befor me.

Ohiotuber you beat me!!
I just built a H&H 9’ 3 wgt. that casts nice but has to learn how to catch fish!!

I feel more like I do now than I did when I got here!

“I’ve often wondered why it is that so many anglers spend so much money on,and pay so much attention to.the details on the wrong end of the fly line.If they took as much care in selecting or tying their flies as they did in the selection of the reel and rod,They might be able to gain the real extra edge that makes it possible to fool a fish that has,in fact, seen it all before” A.K.Best

I have 3 3 wts. that I like a lot. One professional series, 8’6" TFO ($139), a super rod for the money; An Elkhorn 8’3wt. that I built on Elkhorn blanks that is as good as any I have ever cast and a Winston 3 wt that is great as well. Dollar for dollar, I like the TFO or the Elkhorn as much as any 3 wts. I have ever owned.

I own a couple 3wts. The GL3 Loomis is 8’, and is a sweet rod, retails for about $250 (prolly a bit more these days). But the one I use the most is one of those Cabela’s Stowaway 5pc 8’6" ones, about $85. Casts nice, packs small, and works well on fish. And you can buy three of em plus a line for $300.

there is a 9 foot 2 piece 3 wt Scott G on
ebay now at $175.00

I agree with DG above, except I have Cabela’s 7’6" 4 wt “Stoweaway.” I have a friend who has the 3 weight and he is very happy with it.
