Rick,These should work well for large Bluegill and Crappie. Have you tried tying any minnow patterns with yarn? I use the very fine fiber yarn that usually comes in larger, thicker yarn diameters. The trick is to not cut it off but rather pinch a good bunch and pull it from the end of the yarn. This gives the pattern a nice tapered look. I pull off a piece twice as long as I need. Then I lay the yarn over the hook eye and it in so that half of the yarn is out over the front of the eye, and put a couple of wraps of thread to hold it in place, then fold it over and tie in the other half. This locks the yarn in place. I do the same for the belly of the fly with different colored yarn. I use a marker to color the yarn if I want to add details. I have the yarn in lots of different colors and make a number of patterns from it. Here’s an example on a pattern I tied on an Okashari jig head that I use on my spinning outfits. I used more yarn to give it a bulky body, but you get the idea. If you don’t have access to this yarn, let me know and I’ll send you some in different colors to try out. https://gifyu.com/image/SAZ73

Like the pattern. Have a lot of yarn that I can use that way. Also congo hair.
