1st trout on the restored bamboo PLUS a bonus!

Fished my SouthBend 'boo today for 1st time since Leo restored it…result was a dandy 17" rainbow from Apple Creek in Wooster, OH. Released of course. Mike Murgida used my 3 wt & took a chub & a small rainbow, both on a dry fly. Mine came on a wet.

The bonus…When my now 31 yr old daughter Molly was 5, she took a 5 1/4 lb lm bass from a small pond outside Wooster. I saw the road leading to it & Mike & I decided to see if we could find it…hadn’t been there in 20 years as it silted up…real shame as it was afull of big gills & bass. When I saw the pond looking better & larger, we stopped at the house…not only does Dave STILL own the property & reworked the pond, we now have permission to fish there again. I call this a very successful day.

Boy can I relate. I just finished building a bamboo rod from a blank and took it fishing. Caught about 8 small bulegill for the local discovery center (smaller were better) and I loved how you could feel them so well through the bamboo. Have yet to hook anything larger with it, but I will as soon as the action starts to pick up around here.

I’m taking a rod out today that I rebuild off season
My father’s first fly rod, a Japanese cane.
It throws a long line and is faster than most of my glass rods.
My buddy who has redone a number of the old Japanese rods says it possibly will bust if I hook into a large fish, but what a way to go.

Well, dern!! I thought the bonus was going to be pictures of the twins!!

Trouts don’t live in ugly places

Congratulations, Mike. Hey, Betty has a good point there too. How are mom and the twins doing? You know, of course, all are in our family prayers.

OhioTuber - Sounds like finding the ole pond has turned back a chapter in your life. You are very fortunate to have old friends who will let you fish a private pond. I get down to Sugar Creek Ohio once a year to visit the Troyer’s (windmill maker) an Amish family. I love the country between Wooster and there, what a summers day drive! Good story about the restored rod, it is backk doing its duty for another fly fisher. Good luck, Jonezee

Hey Mr.Tuber, glad to here you and MM are hooking up. You’v done so much for others, its always good to here when things are going your way. May you have many, many, more good days…

Spelling and Grammar not subject to judgement…

Grubb,
Thanks for the kind words…you know I’m still hopin’ you can come up for the Michigan Fish-In this August. (I’ll talk to you soon Tim).
Jonezee,
This pond is IN Amish country & you had BETTER let me know when you are coming so we can get together for either some fishing or some GREAT eating there in Amish country.
Eric & Betty,
I tried to post the pix of Abbi & Lexi from the hospital & did it wrong. I’ll try again this week in a separate post.
All…It doesn’t get much better…our family has been on a “hot streak” for awhile now!

Mike,

Nice bow, what a good way to bring an old rod back to life. Congratulations my friend.
