1050SW Olympus

I’m looking at a deal on a Olympus 1050 SW for $214 from a New York Dealer (Adorama). It includes a Blue 2GB xD Picture memory Card, Spare LI-42B Type Lithium Battery, Camera Bag, Table Top Tri-Pod, EZ Digital Photography Guide Card and Professional Lens Cleaning Kit.
I would appreciate opinions from you knowledgeable users. I’d like to pull the trigger soon on a waterproof camera.
Thanks,
Bruce

For $250 they will bill me later (90 days) and I can make monthly payments.

That sounds like a deal to me…especially with all the added stuff.

The bigger memory card is NICE…plus an extra battery…NICE.

I have the 790SW and it’s great for carrying on the stream. If I were on the market for one, I wouldn’t hesitate buying that one, for sure.

Thanks, Bgreer: I took the deal and ended months of searching and waffling. Like many of us, I’m tired of the process. It meets my needs of a waterproof camera. I already lost a coolpix to a dunking.

Thanks, Bgreer: I ended months of waffling and misery and made the purchase. It won’t shoot a masterpiece, but at least if I drop it in the water it will still work.

I purchased that camera over the winter at Costco for $199 for just the camera, and so far I’ve been very happy with it.

I have a 1030Sw and I love it.
I found a similar deal to yours about 10 months ago and places the order
with Adorama. I am still waiting for the camera.
I kept calling and they kept giving me the run around. It was out of stock, it was back ordered, etc.
I finally found a similar deal ,after about 4 months of waiting, on Amazon.
Amazon was about $75 dollars more, but I had all my stuff in three days.
I hope you do not have a similar experience after placing your order.
I would be curious to know if they live up to the deal.
Thanks,
Chris

A word of caution. Be very careful who you order camera equipment from on the internet. There are a lot of scam artists and bait and switch artists out there, particularly some of the New York stores. Always check out reviews on them. Even this can be decieving, since some of them load up reviews with fake good reviews.

Adorama has very inconsistent reviews, evenly split between horrible and great. That in itself should be a red flag, as flyfishingfanatic can attest. I checked Amazon.com and they are currently shipping through Adorama, so that is a plus. I hope it works out. Keep us posted on the service you get.

By the way, the 1050SW is a great waterproof, as are all of the Olympus SW’s and Pentax W’s.

Congratulations Bruce! If your experience is the same as mine with Adorama, you’ll be a happy camper.

I bought my Pentax W60 from them back in May for $189 shipped. Got it in 3 days, and have been enjoying it ever since. I seriously considered the 1050SW, but at the time, the price was higher than the sweet deal I got on the W60. I was able to play with a 1050SW at a local camera dealer, and really liked the quality. Now Adorama is selling the 1050SW for $150! I’d own one right now if I would have gotten that deal back in May.

BTW - Adorama is a real “brick and mortar” store. I don’t know about Olympus, but they were listed as an authorized dealer for Pentax back when i bought my camera…

Also, FWIW, I work about 100 yds from OlympusAmerica - they’re in Center Valley, PA.

Gees, I don’t know whether to be nervous or happy. Somebody either on this site or another I frequent told me Adorama is a reputable dealer. I guess I’ll find out.
I thought with all the kit included $214 was a good deal.
I guess I better say some prayers right now. They told me it should be here by Friday.

That is an incredible deal. These camera prices are making me sick. I paid $330 (discounted) for my 770SW a couple of years ago, no card, nothing.

My wife and I both have ordered from adorama she got battery grip and speed lights ( she is a pro) and I got an olympus 770 sw great camera no problems with the order.

You’ll be fine. They’ve been around for 25 years. Shops that put the screws to people don’t last that many weeks.

I have the 790SW and love it.

Gentlemen et al,
Mixed reviews are the “special of the day” about internet vendors of cameras and electronics. I purchased my Pentax cameras from Broadway Photo. Had I read the reviews BEFORE the purchase, I would have bailed. I got the cameras in about three days and of course with the obligatory call from them to sell me more stuff ( to which I replied "NO). Caution should be the byword of the day. I wouldn’t risk a $5000 purchase through some of the “questionables” but a couplahundred bucks ain’t gonna break me.
The LOGIC for taking the risk is “great prices”. This is an area where biting on a “free lunch” ad may actually be a decent deal.

I’ve had my 1050 for about a month or so now. Think that the macro was better on my coolpix which I gave to my son, but since I go swimming every once in a while thought that the change was a good one. I really like the way that the lens cover works.

I bought mine from B&H for $161 and that was a delivered price. One thing is that these waterproof cameras are waterproof but THEY DON’T FLOAT. I bought one of those foam things that you attach your boat keys to so if you drop them overboard you can retrieve them. I attached this bright orange thing to my camera so if I drop the black camera in the water I have a better chance of actually retrieving it or if I drop the black camera in the grass I might find the thing again. Something to think about with any waterproof camera.

Hi All;

I purchased the 1050SW from Costco for $179.00 included 1Gb Xd card, micro Sd card adapter, case, charger & battery.

I am in the Galopogos Islands right now and I can tell you it takes amazing photos and videos underwater.

I also have an Pentax Optio W10, both take excellent photos & videos underwater but the Pentax battery seems to last longer.

Unfortunately, I tripped on some rocks and cracked the display on the Pentax so now its reserved to out of water only pictures!

Wayne: Would you post some photos when you get back?

Flyfisher121 & All: Thanks, that reassuring.

After my original post, I found that Amazon.com was shipping through the Adorama store. I edited my post to reflect this. I usually trust Amazon.com and associated sites, so I think you are OK. The price you paid is great.

Was just going to post I saw the Costco deal at $179 last night as well. I believe it includes a 1GB card, case, and one battery. This included a $30 instant manufacturer’s rebate.

Just wanted everyone to know that I ordered my camera on Tuesday or Wednesday and received it yesterday (Friday) as promised. Everything is with it and working fine.
