Miracle Midge

This is the third in a series of flies representing the life cycle of the midge, Diptera, family Chironomidae. It is claimed Diptera are the most numerious and widely distributed of all insects available to all freshwater fish.

Materials for the Miracle Midge

    Hook: Daiichi 1110 #18-28.

    Thread: White 8/0.

    Rib: Small copper wire.

    Body: White thread.

    Thorax: Gray superfine dub.

Instructions for the Miracle Midge:

    1. Start thread behind eye and wrap back to halfway point of hook.

    2. Tie in copper wire and wrap thread back to above the barb, covering the wire.

    3. Then wrap thread back to the starting point, creating a smooth tapered body.

    4. Wrap copper wire back towards eye, creating an evenly ribbed abdomen. Tie off copper wire and trim excess.

    5. Using adams gray superfine dub, create a thorax.

    6. Whip finish fly.
