Trojan Midge

This is the second in a series of flies representing the life cycle of the midge, Diptera, family Chironomidae. It is claimed Diptera are the most numerious and widely distributed of all insects available to all freshwater fish.

Materials for the Trojan Midge

    Hook: Daiichi 1110 #18-26.

    Thread: Olive Brown UTC 70, Black UTC 70.

    Underbody: Olive brown thread.

    Overbody: Clear scud back.

    Head: Black thread.

Instructions for the Trojan Midge:

    1. Start thread behind hook and wrap to halfway point of hook.

    2. Tie in a very thin strip of scud back and wrap thread back to above the barb.

    3. Trim excess scud back and wrap thread back to starting point.

    4. Wrap scud back towards eye in touching turns, giving the pattern a ribbed effect. Tie off scud back.

    5. Whip finish olive brown thread and trim.

    6. Start black thread and create small head and whip finish.
