Hi all,

Has been a long time since I commented on this or any other board. Here's the deal on fly line cracking just above the leader butt/line connection. It's simply a matter of the butt section being stiffer than the end of your fly line. If that is the case, you have a built in hinge just above your leader knot connection. There is NO rule on what diameter butt section you should use for say on a DT 5. Simply match the flexibility of the end of your fly line to the butt section material you plan to use. Forget all about the old saw "stiff butt section". Match the flexibilty.
