Which 10 wt ?

I’m adding a 10 wt rod to my inventory and have boiled it down to either a Sage XP or RPLXi. I have casated the 10 wt and liked it and a RPLX 9 wt which I did not particularly like (was using a 10 wt line and may have as much as the overlining). Since used RPLXi are available on ebay for mid three hundred dollars, price is a consideration. Would appreciate hearing from those that have cast the two rods. Thanks
Dave

Both are nice rods. Both cast quite well. Some anglers didn’t like the softer tip of the RPLXi as compared to the RPLX ( Out of the more than 2 dozen rods that I own, the 9903 RPLX is my favorite).

Which rod is better for you may depend upon your fishing requirements. The RPLXi has a more powerful butt section than the XP and thus better lifting characteristics. It also has a slightly softer tip section.

I prefer the XP for casting and the RPLXi for fighting fish.

XP is a rather poor lifting rod. This is particularly important if yo’re thinking of fishing from a boat.

My vote is for the RPLXi

OK experts. Whats your reads on an ORVIS 10wt. trident TLS?..thanks

I agree with the opinions above. The XP is an ideal flats rod and the RPLXi is the more powerful lever. You also might consider a Scott Heliply, the action is similar to an RPLXi but they have still more power in the butt. They’re also discontinued like the RPLXi, but they should be available on eBay.

I don’t know anything about that particular Orvis rod, but in general they fell heavy and dead compared to Sage’s salt sticks.

I looked at the for sale section today and somebody posted a 10 Scott Heliply that has never been used at a pretty good price. Sounds like destiny…
