What Sage rod line is being discontinued?

In the Things For Sale section someone mentioned that Fli and another Sage line was being discontinued. Does anyone know which rod line other than the FLi is being discontinued? Will the two lines be replaced? This past year I bought 2 Fli rods, the 480-2 and the 890-4. Great rods.

Probably the TCR. I see them in the bargain cave at Cabelas.

TyronFly;
The SLT was replaced by the ZXL some time this spring.

Every one will be replaced at some point. Planned obsolescence. This is how they get you to buy more of their rods. You NEED to get that new FKJHETY rod, since you don’t have one and it is NEW and IMPROVED!

Frankly I liked some of thier rods that are long gone, like the RPL and the LL.

Yep…it’s the TCR series.

DG,

I know what you mean, I love the old Sage SP and the XP rods…oh well all must change I guess.

It appears as if the FLi and the TCR are being discontinued. I can’t wait to see what they replace the TCR with!!

Ray I am with you. I can’t wait to try out the TCR’s replacement. Over the years I have found myself more and more in sync with fast action rods. My two favorite series from Sage are the XP (now discontinued) and Z-Axis, but at times even they leave me wanting more.

This is a good example of good ole American “Progress”. I am sure I will find an imperative need for at least one of those new Sage rods.

Maybe a rod that actually casts a line weight that matches the rod weight ??

Seriously, I wonder if that rod proved too fast ( stiff ) to have a real market instead of just a niche ??

I am surprised that they are dropping the Fli. I really like mine, and a recent thread on that rod seemed to generate a LOT of positive comments about it, lots of support for it.

I totally agree. That’s why I’m not a fan of the fast action rods anymore. You seem to need to overline them or maybe my stroke just isn’t fast enough. I like a rod that loads close but still casts a long way off. A few seem to do this, but a lot of them can’t. The TCR was one of them. I’d be curious to see what Sage has in the lineup to replace it. I wasn’t a big fan of the Fli, so I bought a Scott A2. Love it, now I find out Scott is discontinuing the A2! Like ya said, I guess it’s progress and we can only hope both companies know what they’re doing. Given their track records, I’m sure whatever comes out will be good…but I’m still crossing my fingers

Maybe I’m getting old, but the more I fly fish the more I like a more traditional action on my rods.

I sold my XPs and I usually fish Winston rods now. Although I like the slower action of the WTs and the BIIts I also have a BIIMx that has a pretty fast action. It’s a great streamer rod!

TCR will be replaced by the TCX and the FLi by the Flight Family of rods

Maybe they’ll wise up and get a line of fiberglass rods out again.

Yeah, my local shop said the new rods cast pretty good. They should have them in a few weeks. I’m wanting to try out the new TCR replacement, heck it’s only six tanks of gas LOL.

Did Sage ever make a glass rod? I know Scott rods has the Fibertouch which I love. My 7’ 3wt is SWEEEETTTT. I just picked up a Sage LL off Ebay for cheap. Just like one I had stolen a few years ago. Hopefully I won’t break it and get hit with the warranty cost. I wish Sage would come out with an updated LL (or heck, reintroduce it). Killer stick.
