Warden's Worry (variation) SBS

Found this cool version on Classicflytying.

hook - Mustad 9671 #2
thread - Danville 6/0 red
tag - tinsel gold
tail - duck quills red
rib - oval tinsel gold
body - yarn yellow/orange
underwing - squirrel tail
wing - turkey tail
hackle - yellow
collar - duck flank (not sure if it’s mallard or redhead; I threw a mix of both in the dye bath) dyed yellow (1tbs Rit Golden Yellow/1 cup water)

Part 1

mash barb, start thread, wrap to bend

tie in tinsel; wrap down bend and back, tie off/trim

prep duck quills, curving away from each other; measure (gap width past bend), tie in

tie in rib, wrap everything back to the front, trimming quill butts

tie in 1 strand of yard; wrap tapered body, tie off/trim

Part 2

counterwrap rib; tie off/trim (probably should have used thicker tinsel)

measure (tips to tail) a sparse clump of squirrel tail; tie in/trim

prep turkey tail segments; measure (tips to tail), fold, tie in/trim

tie in (folded) hackle by tip; wrap, tie off/trim

Part 3

tie in (folded) mallard by tip

wrap collar, tie off/trim, whip finish, SHHAN

Scott

Warden’s Worry 2

Washed it in the warm cycle and it shrunk 3 sizes (including the head!!!). Since I didn’t dye any small mallard in that batch, I subbed some partridge that I had. Wing was folded instead of matched quill segments; seemed to work okay.
