I call these guys streamer heads because I use them with regular streamers when I want to get a very different look and presentation. I often use them when fishing over weed beds that are 10-12" below the surface. The streamer heads keep my pattern out of the weeds while creating enough disturbance to even get the attention of fish hiding blow the weeds. They are build as tube heads, but I hollow the back of the head out to fully accomodate the streamer head creating a contiguous presentation. I make them in sliders, divers, poppers and wake baits. They’re fun to make and give me more options on the water.
Please share with us what the tube material is. Commercial or repurpose DIY source? Many thanks.
These are really cool, James.
These are made with tubes I had on hand for tying tube flies. You can find them at many of the fly tying supply stores online. You could probably find them locally at some variety stores as well, but I just bought some online to save the time looking. Here are a couple of vendors that sell them for tube flies. I use about 1/2" per streamer head. Feel free to ask any questions you may have about their construction.

Thank you for the kind words. I also make them a bit larger for the Tube heads that I use with any trailers I want. It gives me lots of options.
James, what material do you use to cover the tube and create the head?

I carve the heads from balsa wood with an Xacto knife, sand them to final shape, color it with markers, and give it a coat of two-part epoxy. I drill the hole for the plastic tube first so that it is centered in the head where I want it.
Feel free to ask any additional questions.

Thanks Norm. I was not aware of those products. I will check them out.
