This related to my other post. Does anyone have any specific streamer patterns they tie to fish for brown trout. Just curious.
Bruce,
I’m a pretty poor streamer fisherman, but here’s a couple patterns that work very well on some of the tailwaters here in MT
Kreelex
hook - TMC 5262 #6
thread - UTC 140 yellow
tail/belly - Kreinick Flash-in-a-Tube gold (Flashabou works great, too)
wing - Kreinick Flash-in-a-Tube copper
eyes - dumbell medium gold silver
Hickman’s Skiddish Smolt
hook - Dai Riki 700 #4
thread - Danville monocord white
underbody - silver tinsel
body - midge tube red
underflash - Mirage Flashabou opal
overflash/underwing - Flashabou silver
collar - Ice Dub pearl
wing - ostrich herl grey
head - 1/4" cone silver
Old favorites like yellow Marabou Muddlers work, too. Lots of others out there; I’m sure the better streamer folks will chime in.
Regards,
Scott

In the color he ties?
Depends on where I am going to be fishing. On my favorite water, the East Walker River, in Bridgeport, CA…or the Owens River near Bishop, CA, here are a couple of patterns I have used over the years that have consistently provided large Browns…

DH FROG…yep, on top, with the weed guard snipped off and the hook canted…some of the largest Browns I have taken, on the EWR, have come to this guy in the Spring…

OWENS “OFFENDER”… works for Browns, but also took this 9lb. /4oz. Rainbow , in a lake, two weeks ago…

I know this is not a very exciting suggestion, but I fished the South Platte in Elevenmile Canyon 2 weeks ago and one of the days the larger browns were all over the plain old boring black Wooly Bugger.

Hi Ralph. Can you post the parts for The Little Pine, please? I think I’ll tie a few tonight and try them early in Saturday morning on The Little Juniata River.
Yellow Marabou Muddler.
Here you go. It’s also at the end of the video:
Hook: 3XL Dry Fly
Thread: Black
Underbody: Lead Wire
Rib: Copper Wire
Abdomen: #738 Mouline
Wing: Brown Micro Pine Strip
Hackle: Hen Pheasant Shoulder
Head: Black Ostrich Herl
Sorry, Ralph. I can’t see videos here at work. What color is Mouline #738? I never heard of Mouline.
I just googled “mouline 738” and found a French embroidery thread. The color looks like a medium beige. Seems they have a very wide range of colors.

Yep…embroidery thread. Walmart carries it as do most craft stores. Its like a tan/ gold…has a sheen to it.
I agree, Joe, you can’t go wrong with a woolly. I like to try new patterns, which is why I love to tie.
After July the hatches are about over here in Michigan.I tie wolly buggers, zonkers, Micky Fins. This time of the year I would go with terrestrials, those boys are killers this time of year.
I have two colors of bugger in my boxes, and nothing else that could be called a streamer. No sense making it harder than it has to be.
