small damselfly

hey guys, Here is a pattern I put up on the warm water board, that I though I would share here.
We seem to get really small adult damselflies at my local lake so in order to duplicate them I decided to try something.
Here is what I came up with.

RECIPE:
HOOK:TIEMCO NYMPH(BARBLESS USED)#10
THREAD:BLACK 8/0
BODY:white dacron fly-line backing colored blue then put black stripes on.(with a sharpie)
TAIL:same as body, except burn the end of the backing to keep it from fraying.
WINGS:Sparkle emerger yarn, TAN
WINGCASE:TAN FOAM, pulled over.

Treat it with floatant and it works great.

Hope you like it!!

Chris,

Nice damselfly! Is the lake you mention the one near Carmel valley?

The lake I speak of is a pay to play (fly club) small lake in san juan bautista.

Not fimilar with that one. Lately I have been fishing at Steven Creek Reserviour. Sorry for the hijack.

I don’t mind!

Chris, the idea is very good, the only thing i would change is the body material for some kind of dubbing and would make wings a little longer

CC

Technically speaking, should a damsel fly adult be tied with the wings swept back and the dragon fly with the wings horizontal?

Are all spents horizontal?

Chris:

Nice fly!

You do realize that Hareline Dubbing makes Damsel Fly body material; already colored blue; already striped. It appears to be braided mono and should fit the bill and save you some time.

I use it and have been pleased with the results.

I have seen that stuff, looks great.
Will get some soon.
I just needed a pattern in a pinch and I came up with the idea of coloring backing.

Try using CDC for the wings

I do have some cdc… Might have to try that idea.
maybe I’ll post a picture of it depending on how it turns out.
