Purchased 2 new Hardy reels, 3-5 wt. BUT, except for my only Hardy rod, the 2 new reels do not fit any of my rods that i now own. Most of my rods are self made fitted with REC and PacBay reel seats. Ron of HH could not offer any recommendations. Anyone be of help? I am willing to remove the the existing reels eats for a retrofit. Thanks
Hi Fritz
If your reel seat is too big for the reel foot You can do what I do with the one reel I own with a small reel foot. I keep a shim, in my case a piece of a printed circuit board blank, in the bag with that reel. If the reel foot is too big for the reel seat the only thing I can think of would be to machine the foot down. I really don’t recommend doing that.
Depending on how long are the reel seats on the rods that won’t handle the new reels foots and how you use those rods and reels, e.g. the reels just holding line or you fighting large fishies on the reel - maybe duct tape is the simple solution. Not a pretty solution, but if you retrofit those rods to handle the new reel foots will you also be eliminating the possibility of using other reels on those rods ??
