Rainbow Warrior?

I am looking for a nymph pattern called the “Rainbow Warrior”.
Has anybody ever heard of it?

Thanks

Is this what you are looking for? There were about a bazillion hits on Google for it. Nobody will tie it any better than Charlie.

Actually that particular foam (if it’s what I think it is) is so dense it barely floats.
If at all. That’s the thin hard stuff they sell in craft shops.

not sure which “rainbow warrior” youre thinking of, but the one in the link above has no foam in the recipe

I think he was replying to another thread.

This one, perhaps?

At least it makes more sense with that one.

Thanks Kevin,

I think that is what I am looking for.

The Rainbow Warrior is one of my favorite tailwater nymph patterns. I usually fish it as the second fly under a weighted top fly such as a Kaufmann stonefly or Big Ugly Rubberlegs.

Here’s the one I tie with the recipe. Not my creation, but a regular go-to fly on my local rivers:

Rainbow Warrior

Hook: DaiRiki 125 size #16
Thread: 8/0 Red
Bead: Silver 3/32
Tail: Brown Saddle Hackle Fibers
Rib: Silver Uni wire - small
Abdomen: UTC Mirage Tinsel, opal - med.
Thorax: Ice Dub - pearl, red-hue
Wingcase: UTC Mirage Tinsel, opal - large

Have fun with this one, it will catch you a lot of fish.

kelly.

I heard of the Rainbow Warrior for the first time Sunday while on my tube in the Chattahoochee, a fisherman passing by was telling a friend he was having success with a Rainbow Warrior. I was doing okay with Lightning Bug, which doesn’t look that different. One a bright day, in clear water a little bling is probably a good thing on the end of your line.

The Rainbow Warrior is a home grown Utah boy’s fly. Fantastic pattern whether fishing in moving or still waters.

Here is a link to a rainbow Warrior (Variation) on the Hatches magazine page http://www.hatchesmagazine.com/patterns/Rainbow-Warrior-Variation/10383/. If you search that site you’ll get 10 or more references. I think this may be closest to what you are referring to.

lance egan is the originator of the “rainbow warrior”

I believe that is what I am looking for. I am going to western North Carolina in October. I asked the outfitter what patterns to carry other than the normal trout stuff.
He mentioned the Rainbow Warrior in sizes 16 - 20.
The only component that I don’t have is the silver beads, which I am headed to the fly shop shortly to pick up.

Thanks for all the replies and pictures.
