Light wood “strike indicator”? (aka … bobber)

HA!! I should have looked at the “answer” first!! Very KEWL!!!

I took the bait like Betty did. Interesting. Don’t ever remember seeing anything like that and I date back almost to that time.

I’ve got 2 guesses. A reel handle? Or…a reel spool spindle covering that you would tie your backing to?

Edited to add:
OK, now I’ve looked. I would never have guessed!

Years ago, the lead for mech. pencils came in a wooden cylinder just like that. That was my guess before looking at the answer…

I agree with WarrenP, I remember—does that mean I’m old warren P your in the same boat.

                                                                                              Wellcome aboard
                                                                                                 John

WOW!! I guessed it!! Then I thought, I was wrong, a match stick holder? I looked it up and DARN I WAS RIGHT!!

John,

They may call us “old”, but, I worked hard to get to this phase of my life and I plan to enjoy every minute of it!

By the way, after leaving the river one cold day, I stopped at a little store and while waiting for the waitress to get me a cup of hot coffee to go, I noticed that on the front of her T-shirt was the following:

“AGE IS A MIND OVER MATTER THING”

and on the back of her T-shirt it said:

“AND I DON’T MIND BECAUSE YOU DON’T MATTER”

At whatever age you are, try and enjoy the ride…

Got several of those aroud here somewhere. They belonged to my Grandfather.

Brad

I remember Mom getting needles for her sewing machine in a wooden tube but have never seen fish hooks in one. I would have guess toothpick holder if I had not peeked first.

My guesses were either a match box or a duck call or a hair stacker! After seeing the answer, I believe my dad has a few of those wooden hook containers he collected. Thanks for sharing. Anybody got any more stumpers? I was going to stump you all with a CT scan of my brain - you’d never guess right. You’d be guessing stuff like - it’s his stomach, or no, that’s definitely his gall bladder, or I don’t know, it looks like his large intestine to me. So, I guess I’ll leave the stumpin’ to ya’ll.

Best regards, Dave S.

I have one of those. Let’s see, where did I put that darned thing?

Bob

Split shot also use to come in those wooden containers. And like someone else said, fishhooks.

George

Dubbing needle handle … —Did not even need to bother looking it up like Betty HA!

I believe wood cylinders like that use to contain hooks. Dennis
