Please someone buy this rod on ebay it is tempting me badly.

As I Love a 7’6" 2 PC rod in 4 weight and Loomis there is one on eBay a fr904 in gl3 supposedly new for 125.00.I have it in a glx and gl3 and I need it like another hole in my head!It is no longer made and could not be replaced but for the price is almost a no brainer. Please someone buy it before I succumb to the urge!

So? Have you bought it yet?

Tom,
it’s seldom about need. Go ahead and buy it.my GL3 was one of my favorite small streamer rods. My son started fishing it about 10 years ago and he wont give it back. Nice rod for the price.
Best,
Steve

Steve go ahead and buy it the temptation is too much!

Tom,
I still have two others even with my son absconding with the 7.5’ for 4wt…
I just picked up two bamboo rods so I can’t push it too much.
Have fun with it.
Best,
Steve

Lead me not into temptation for I will find it myself

Its like a briar in my foot, until I pull it out the pain of not doing it is still there!

Thomas,

You’ll be happy to know that I’ve put you out of your misery, or at least pulled the briar out of your foot. The pain will go away eventually, by then of course, you’ll find another briar to step on;)

I don’t really need another fly rod, but a nice 4wt with some backbone at a good price sounded like a nice addition to my arsenal.

p.s.

Jim you got a.good.one take care of her, they are hard to find like that anymore. If I hadn’t pulled the trigger on a cabelas sli in same rod I would have jumped it!I have been told the old sli’s were built on Loomis blanks and mine has a rec reel seat and sic guides.

Thomas,

The rod arrived today and if it is not new, it is very lightly used or perhaps a store demo rod. The only reason I say this is that there is slight staining on the cork grip. That said, it is in as-new condition and a very sweet little rod. I’ll see if I can take it out this weekend to try it out.

They literally don’t make rods like those old GL3’s anymore. I have an 8’ three piece GL3 four weight that is a great small stream rod. It is a medium action rod that loads easily but has enough backbone to toss small streamers and nymph rigs.

Try some lava soap on a plain sponge and water and softly wash the cork off then let air dry and see if it brightens up.If ya don’t like it I may trade even for the SLI!

Just for info, I used a neat product to clean the corks on a number of my fly rods, Mr. Clean’s Magic Eraser. Works great!

Larry,

WOW! We use those things around the house all the time. They really are like magic the way the work on stuff nothing else will. I’ll give them a try tomorrow.

Thanks to the tip.

my current wife has just commandeered this rod from me two weeks ago… she (like I did) loves it… ($125 is a pretty great deal, too)

Larry,

Just a note to say thanks for the tip about using the Mr. Clean’s magic eraser sponge to clean the cork on the 4 wt. It worked fantastic. I about a minute it looks like new. Great idea!!!

Thanks for sharing it.

I’ve had a custom made 7’-6" GL3 in a three-weight for a number of years (actually I broke the tip off a long time ago and it’s only 7’-3" now) and it is hands-down my favorite rod ever.

One note to say they don’t make em like the gl3 anymore,if.you can locate a discontinued east fork in the fr904-3 that is a nice stiff 4 weight if you can stomach the reel seat color and snake guides unlike Loomis’ normal single foot guides.Had one and traded it for the new fr904-2 gl3 I have.Wish I had just bought the gl3 and kept the east fork too.
