Pink Cahill

I’m heading to CO in July, they’re telling me to have some Pink Cahills. Does anyone have the receipe?

Fishngene,
Have you tried You Tube or maybe just Google it…you might just get lucky and find more than you bargained for.

Cahill

Thanks. I’m assuming that the wet version is the same.

I tie a Hairwing Dun to fish the Epeorus hatch in Montana; ginger spade hackle tail, pinkish tan biot body, pale ginger hackle and bleached deer hair wing on a #16 hook. Works pretty well.

Regards,
Scott

Fishngene, here’s a link to the flies for Colorado : http://www.southcreekltd.com/akbest/akbest_flylist.cfm From AK’s Fly Box book : PMD on a mustad 94840 or tiemco 100 #18, 16, 14 with Danville’s 6/0 #41 beige thread, tail - golden ginger spade hackle, body - pink & tan dyed stripped & dyed rooster hackle quills, wings - creamy dun hackle tips, hackle - golden ginger hackle. Have one left over from years ago stored on the fly tying desk

This is the Frying Pan Dun !

I’m thinking that this classic catskill pattern borrowed from another site, with pink floss substituted for the olive would be the ticket:^)

Here is an old Catskill Dry Fly, inspired by the late Larry Koller’s writings and his mention of its namesake.

With traditional turle knot space behind hook eye

Wings: Wood Duck flank
Tails: Medium-Dark ginger
Body: Natural gray fox dubbing ribbed closely with a single strand of olive floss
Hackle: Brown

All the Cahills are either olive or yellow & as for the nymphs would have to call. Here’s a picture of the pink dun :

in the west pink "cahills are just another color pmd and range in color from pale orange to light olive to pink. in general pale yellow orange will “match the hatch” for all colors.

best resource is Charlies Flybox. Charlie Craven, his site has hundreds of patterns on it, and you can call and ask. Best part about it he is in Colorado. Best, heinrich

Best resource? This is off of the index page ,<http://www.charliesflyboxinc.com/flybox/index.cfm>
“Charlie’s FlyBox currently contains 160 patterns”

And no search function.Although with an alphabetical list of ONLY 160 patterns I guess there is no need for a search function. So whats so impressive about this site that I’m missing?

Incidentally there is no pink (or other) cahill’s in the list.
