Peak Vise Height Extension

Has anyone tried to remove the stem and replace it with a longer one to raise the height? It appears to be a friction fit and not a threaded one. For most vises, I find them too low for my sitting and as a result, back and shoulder pain starts to creep in after long tying periods.

There is another solution that doesn’t mean butchering your vice. Try a vice extension. They are an L shape that fits into your clamp and lifts the vice (or lowers it if used the right way up).

Without seeing your tying position it is difficult to say what the cause of the pain is, but usually it is from holding up your arms. Higher usually means holding your arms higher. Lowering it, and resting your arms on the chair arms might help. It does help me.

Cheers,
A.

Peak does make a riser that is compatible with both the pedestal base or the C clamp. www.peakfishing.com

Depending on how much you want to raise the height, a clever person could also probably figure out a way to lengthen the stem using another length of 3/8 diameter rod and a coupler of some sort.

Maybe I don’t understand the problem. My Peak came with a pedestal base only.
When using this, it allows me to rest my elbows on my desk top,
This situation is ideal for both resting my back and also steadying my hands.
 Happy tying

Did you tried to use a brass riser?
I am very satisfied about that.

Did you tried lowering the high of the chair, sitting a bit lower will have a similar effect than rising the vise.

Or setting it on a big book?

I agree you must get the vise in a comfortable position but how 'bout get up, stretch, and move around every so often? I always get up and move around. I hate to sit in one place for very long unless I am hunting, or catfishing.

Why would you want to extend the rod. Just stick a book under the vise. I use the brass riser at times but I’m more often trying to lower the vise rather than raising it.
