Anyone care to share their ideas? Just curious. I tie some with PT Body’s an yellow-dubbed thorax. Just wonder how I’d approach John Barr’s pattern. I have tied I for BWOs and it works at the right time.
Thanks
Bruce,
I’d keep the pt abdomen and dubbed thorax; although it wouldn’t officially be a Barr Emerger, it’d be an effective fly and fish don’t read recipes. Brown hackle tail and yellowish olive hackle for wingcase/legs and Bob’s your uncle. I’d also tie a few flashbacks with a strip of opalescent tinsel on top of the wingcase.

Bruce,
You’re welcome. Forgot to mention Palm Emergers; they’re very good, too.

Bruce, Here is what I use through PA for BWO’s, which does well for me. Its an easy change to a lighter thorax & #16 for sulfurs. I transition from this to an LTD which is where I end up for 90% of the Sulfur hatch.
Good luck this year!
The little Cree is what I fish most often vs a nymph for sulfurs. It is well-received throughout the Pine Creek drainage.

Hey Ralph,
Yep, I have your LTD’s in repertoire and the work well. I was going to add Barr’s just for something different.
Hey Ralph, I have a few questions. I read your article on the Sulfur hatch, which I enjoyed. Would you post the pattern for the Sulfur Lite? Also, why do you tie your sulfur nymph in a dun color? Great patterns!
Bruce
Bruce, Sure will. I was pending a video, but I will add the recipe either way.
I use the natural grey rabbit because of the color when wet on the nymph. The ginger Hareline of the original C2C is a med to light charcoal when wet and does very well on it’s own. But the grey is a little darker when wet and seems to do better for me when specifically fishing the sulfur hatch. Just a personal finding though, not any more scientific than that.
