Ott Lite - 13-watt or 18-watt?

For those of you that have an Ott Lite (or similar), is a 13-watt lamp sufficient for fly tying on a stationary desk at home, or would an 18-watt lamp be better? I can get a 13-watt Ott Lite at Costco for $39, or an 18-watt Ott Lite with the clamp/stationary base for $90. Anyone have a 13-watt lamp and wish they had the 18-watter? Any recommendations/suggestions would be appreciated!

I use a 13 watt and I find that its close to perfect and it doesn’t generate much heat.

I have a 13 watt and am very happy with it

13 watt is sufficient for me but then, I like O’Doul’s so don’t go by what I say.

I have a 13 watt Daylite and am happy with it.

Hey Castafly,

I have the 18W version. Heat is not a
problem for me. It seems to stay relatively
cool with great lighting. Warm regards, Jim

I have the 13 watt Ott-Lite on my tying desk. No problems. Never wished that it was brighter.

I have the 18 watter and it is great. Been using it for over a year now. Ron

I have an 18 Daylight and would go for more…
I noticed in previous threads some folks have more than one light…

Also I got an 18 daylight type light at Costco for $20 and someone pointed out they had gotten it with a coupon for $5…now that’s a deal…

There are Daylight lamps on the internet for a lot less than the OTTs.

I have a 13 watt for travel and an 18 watt for home, but I wish I had a 24 watt. I like a lot of light and in my opinion 18 watts is still not bright enough, so I use it in combination with a conventional incandescent lamp. YMMV.
