I posted this on the wanted board but should have posted it hear. I’m looking for the old Mustad 9671 fly hook. The original was a 2x long. The new version is a 3x long. Some sites list the hook by number just like the old listing but after calling I found out they are selling only the new 3x long version. I know this is not a big deal but I’m working on something special and just wanted to find the original. I need #12 , #14 and #16 if someone has some they might part with I would be grateful. Thanks

Try Tyee Tackle up in Canada. Their store almost seems to be a time warp when it comes to Mustad hooks. It’s the only place that I found Mustad 3906B’s in size 2 last year! I found it through a posting on this forum. They have it listed in 2X long and should respond to an email. Here’s their site: http://www.tyeetackle.com/hooks3.html

Thanks Mark , I did see that when I was searching online but is there still a problem with the postal service or shipping services up there? I was hesitant to order because of that.

I am not sure the new hooks are actually any longer. I think mustad just standardized on what they are calling a 2x vs a 3x. Is it possible the hook was always closer to a 3x than a 2x? Have you compared to hooks side by side to see if there is any difference?

Interesting , but I don’t have any of the old style hooks to use for comparison to the new. From what I’ve read it is longer than a standard dry but shorter than the new #9671.

If you watch Ebay, sooner or later virtually all of the common old style Mustad hooks show up. Normally, there will be several sizes of most of them listed. When I am looking for a particular size and style, they normally have most sizes except the one I want, and then when it shows up I either forget to bid or the price is out of reason. Other than that there are a lot of Mustads there, and they are normally fairly reasonably prices, and over a period of time I usually get what I am looking for. There are a few sellers, however, that are pretty much out of reason.

I second that one. I just want some out of date hooks. Some Ebay sellers think them worthy of a Christies auction. I think I might be able to get them from Tyee Tackle in Canada but if someone has any they can part with please let me know.

I found two boxes of size 16 that I bought when a local sporting goods store went out of business 20 years ago. Didn’t dump them out to count, but they look like they are all there. Haven’t found any 14’s or 12’s, but still looking. If you ever get to Mountain Home, Arkansas, they might cost you lunch at the Sowbug Roundup or Southern Council Conclave.
