I was experimenting with more Wal-Mart Materials and came up with this.
.
I call it the Wal-Mart Floating-Head Fish. This one is colored to be a generic shad, but you could match any fish there is with prismatic markers.
Thread: White Unithread 3/0
Hook: Mustad 31760 sz. 4-10
Body: Craft Fur
Head: Glitter Foam
Eyes: small doll-eyes ( I am going to use Prismatic Stick-On Eyes on future versions. They are easier to work with.)
That’s it.
This craft fur moves in the water just like good marabou. The head is made from glitter foam, also from Wal-Mart. It is $2.55 for about 10-2 x 6 sheets. It comes in red, green, silver, gold, white, black , and purple. This stuff is great! It is self-adhesive, so it will stay on the hook until you get the Zap-A-Gap on it.
In another thread Craft Fur from Walmart was mentioned and so I’ll ask you the same question?? Do you get or notice any color bleed from it??
I had tried some from JoAnnes Fabric and had that problem.
The particular type of fur I am using is called “Quality Craft Fur” by Punisher Lures. It says on the label that is it “the ultimate hair for jigs, flies and spinners. Designed by the Smallmouth Guru, Stephen Headrick". It is in the sporting goods department of the Wal-Mart in Cleveland, Tn. It is $2.19 for a large 4” x 12" patch. It is enough to do 30-75 flies, depending on the size and pattern.
