I found a pattern here I’m think of trying out, “Goldie Jr.” By Richard Zieger and calls for this metallic thread, which a rod winding thread and is not cheap! Is there another type of thread that can be used in place of this type of thread, that’s isn’t quiet as costly
thanks for the link. I did find some at Jann’s NetCraft for just over $2 a spool, by Pacific Bay size “A” 100yds. May give this a try. Not sure how much this type of thread is actually used in fly tying.
Check out Krenick’s website for a store near you, I did this and found a Needlework store about 3 miles from me that had WAY to much in “Sparklie” thread at 1.50-2.00 a spool…I left with about 20 spools.
Michael’s has all sorts of sparkle thread in the embroidery section in skeins for about $2 each. There are 4 strands in a ‘thread’ so I us two strands at a time (one strand seems to stretch too much). There are several colours and my favourite is actually black which makes gread ribbing on nymphs. There is plenty of interesting material in that section of Michael’s including mylar tubing for streamers, beads etc. Look around with fly tying in mind and hold on to your wallet.
