Sure miss the dedicated saltwater fly fishing magazines. Anyone know why they couldn’t make it?
Low subscription rates. A problem for many magazines in the Internet age.
Also I think the SW fly fishing publications focused too much on on certain regions and types of fish. Lots of articles on bonefish, tarpon, permit, billfish and striped bass or exotic places most can’t afford to go to. Pacific coast saltwater fly fishing virtually ignored, etc.
There are so many off the paved road directions and dimensions that just go totally unconsidered I just cant understand why people stopped looking at the same ole thing.
I think if you check all printed media is struggling these days. I start getting ESPN, the magazine and Men’s Health without every contacting either. They make their money off advertising and advertisers requires X number of copies be distributed each edition. If you go to church you will see the young crowd without print copies of the Bible but reading if from smartphones.
Thanks for your thoughts
There is a new digital saltwater fly fishing magazine. Southern Saltwater Fly Fishing Magazine. Issue 2 is out. It is free. Try it and let me know what you think.
Having trouble reading as I continually need to re download. But I like ok although it seems a little infomercial to me. Does give some local flavor
I looked at it and it isn’t bad! I will keep am eye out for the next issue.
As far as the magazines go, as was said before, they seemed to just lose touch with the regular guy who fishes. The one that specialized in Saltwater Flyfishing became really predictable, and had too many articles about places the great majority of the readers would never visit.
