Legend Ultra queston

I acquired an 8-wt 9’ St. Croix Legend Ultra recently. I am curious if it’s the “old one” or the “new one.” When I look on St. Croix’s website, I see that the latest rods have a round fighting butt…this one has a cone-shaped fighting butt. Is this the pre-IPC rod, and if so, what’s that mean in performance?

Thanks,
R

RStouff- The easy way to tell if the rod is pre-IPC is by the snake guides. The pre-IPC have single foot guides the latter model uss the double foot snake guides. I prefer the pre-IPC models of the Legend Ultra over the newer ones because of the snake guides. Ron

I cant comment on the new IPC models but the original Legend Ultra is a fantastic performer so if thats what you have, use it and dont think you have a lesser rod because you dont.

The older rods have their model numbers, printed on both the case and the rod butt, as UF908 for the 2 piece or UFT 908 for the 4 piece.
The newer models are marked U908.2 or U908.4
Stands for Ultra legend, 9 ft 0 in, 8 wt, 2 pc, or 4 pc.

Hmm…this rod is a 3 piece, but it does have single-foot guides and is marked UFT908…nothing on the tube though except the St. Croix logo. I’m sure it’s the pre-IPC then, and it casts very nicely for a big stick.
