I caught my first one today, shortnose, that was about 22". here are some pictures:

my uncle yelled at me: “quit being a b**** and grab the d*** thing!!”

and so I did:

it was tons of fun, but I felt a little under armed with a four weight, but traveling to florida, I had to choose a rod that would be fun and I could still cast bigger flies with it. When I get home to Ohio, I am gonna have to search the rivers better for gar! they put up a heck of a fight!

nice fish! got me a gar last week on a black clouser minnow! got him right on the beak with the hook! lucky catch if ya ask me

I was in utter amazement when I got him in and he was fair hooked, but I could see where his teeth were starting/trying to fray my leader. outside of using a rope fly, you have to let them pick it up and run with it.
