I know some folks on here have had a different set of experiences with catfish than I have, so the write-up is based on my own experiences and is not a comprehensive report by any means.
I’d LOVE if you’d post below how your experiences either match or differ from mine.
Thanks!
Dave,
I have had some success fly fishing for channel cats. Like you, I have done best in farm ponds and reservoirs, usually on nymph patterns. My best producer to date has been a black rubber-legged nymph tied on a #8 scud hook.
Steve
I’ve only caught four catfish on the fly and nothing over about two pounds. Two, the smallest, on a small fly/strike indicator combo, one on a small epoxy minnow and the largest on a spinner’d jig fly.
I’ve had similar experiences for sure. The old Muddler and Spuddlers were two of my best flies when fishing Florida for Channels/. Good report and pics!
