Fly fishing from a canoe

I started fly fishing from a canoe last year for both trout and bass. It seems I can not keep from tangling the line up in my feet no matter what I do. I am thinking of taking a hint from salt water guys, and wearing a stripping basket, or keeping one at my feet in the boat. Does anyone have any other suggestions??

Hey A.,

I found that when I swapped out my lace
up sneakers for the slip ons, the problem
went away. The shoe strings were the culprit for me.G Warm regards, Jim

Can you lay some net mesh over your feet and stuff on the floor?
…lee s.

I use a five gallon bucket in my canoe.

Do like Jim said about the shoelaces or you can do as I do and tuck your laces between your foot and the shoe. Shoe laces are big line grabbers.

Just a question, since I’m not canoe literate.

Why not a stripping apron across the thing, like in a float tube?

Just curious.

Buddy.

Throw a towell down on your lap or over your feet etc. and strip line on to it.

I use a plastic dishwashing tub/basin.

A beach towel works wonders. Also I try wearing shoes. I’ve had more line tangles with my bare toes than anything else. JGW

Try stripping the line into the section behind your seat, not in front.
