From the web i have found 3 different values
Global Flyfisher thread table .041 mm …0016 inches i doubt it
.0029 inches it does not look that much smaller than 6x tippet
Thread Exchange says 135 denier polyester thread has a diameter of .0047 inches this is a generic thread for comparison
My micrometer says 4 thousands of an inch.
Thanks rainbowchaser
You’re welcome. While I had the mic out I also checked Danville’s 6/0 which measured at about 2.6 thousandths. I knew I had always considered the uni-thread heavy.
Is Uni larger or just round whereas the Danville is flat? If you mic the Danville across its width would it mic out larger then the Uni?
“Global Flyfisher thread table .041 mm …0016 inches i doubt it” - Agree
“.0029 inches it does not look that much smaller than 6x tippet” - Well, 6x tippet would be .005 inches
“Thread Exchange says 135 denier polyester thread has a diameter of .0047 inches this is a generic thread for comparison” - Have no idea but that’s very close to what the diameter of 6x is supposed to be.

I attended a class last year and the instructor told us at that time that Danville 6/0 is the same diameter as Uni 8/0. I gave most of my Uni to a young friend. You can do so much more with Danville thread. Chris Helms did a very good comparison a number years ago on thread, see if you can find it.
Just a thought, but the measuring of thread or line thickness would need to be done with a gauge. It would be very easy to crush thread or even line with a micrometer. The material being measured would need to be under a uniform tension to help resist crushing or stretching to a smaller diameter.
