Crippled Emergent Pale Morning Dun

I don’t mean to offend anyone. I have probably posted pics of similar ties before.

I was tying some PMD’s this morning because it is a very important hatch where and when I fish.

I really like this particular one because:

  1. The rear third is sort of a pheasant tail color representing the remaining shuck on the abdomen.
  2. It uses “turkey round” feathers of both the rear third and the second third in two colors.
  3. It is a great floating Sparkle Dun style fly.

Byron,

I like that lots. Enough so that I will swear off my no fly shop visit for a while to get some Turkey Rounds. I will send the Mrs. to you for justification.

Regards,

SRT

Bring her on!!!

It is every fly Tier’s God-given right to buy tying materials.

Byron,
What about extending the tips of the turkey rounds off the back as a shuck instead of the Zelon?

Joe

I like that…but thinking about making everything up to the thorax the brown color with pheasant tail, followed by your thorax and wing…do you think it would change much?

I am lazy, and one less ingredient…

Mike

Mike,
Probably would make no difference.
My thinking was, the “tail” which is the trailing shuck, plus the last third of the body, represents the approximate length of the insect’s shuck that it is trying to escape from.
But, like I said, would probably not matter much. Its just that I have the time and like to do what I visualize.

Not a baf idea. I use the material I do to assist in floatations. The higher volume of fibers, I think, will assist in floatations.

Zelon floats, feathers absorb water

Grease 'em up. Since the feathers are being used as the body of the dry fly, why not the shuck, too? I’m like Mike - the fewer the materials I have to add, the better for me.
By the way, great looking fly, Byron.

Joe

Nice fly Byron, I like it. Let us know how the fish rate it. Regards, Oldster.

Looks cool beans, give it a go!

“Beans”?..

Beans… Bugs… Both are good sources of protein.
